Personal Podcast Review

After discovering what a “podcast” was; I went to the itunes store and I listened to two of them; The first podcast that I listen to was the house with George Stroumboulopoulos and the Edmonton Oilers podcast. The first Podcast, George Stroumboulopoulos interviews Brett Heart, a former WWE wrestler making a comeback into the WWE after missing 12 years out of the business. Stroumboulopoulos aske’s some questions to Mr. Heart about the Heart family and what kind of effects the injury has had on them. Mr. Heart goes on to say that the WWE was there for him the whole time and that Vince Mcman really turned negative things into positive ones. The 2nd audio podcast that I watched discussed about the Pat Burns and the Edmonton oilers. This podcast has Mr. Burn narrating a review of the game that was just played. He talks about penalties and other pros and cons concerning the game against Detroit.

People generally liked this podcast and audio podcast, but some found it pointless as they also now have a video podcast. I think that it is pretty cool that I could download that days Pardon the Interruption, upload it to my Ipod and listen to it in my car driving. I think this method of providing information is better then traditional blogging, because it is much easier to take in, you can listen to it while driving, you don’t need to take to minutes out of a busy day to read it. I think an audio book is good in theory but when actually doing it I could see it not being useful. I think it would first be pretty boring to listen to an entire book on tape, also it would not be useful if you ever needed to use page references as you don’t have a hard copy.

I watched some video podcasts, these I found very interesting. I watch the TSN hockey highlights and a “College Humor” clip. The highlights of the hockey games was pretty cool because it gave me an opportunity to watch the highlights that I would not normally get to see when I am at the gym or at class. The college humor clip was hilarious and I ended up watching several of the clips that they had on youtube. In all, I think that the idea of video blogging like this a very useful technology. I surfed around on Youtube as well, I think that Youtube is so successful because they allow people to post there own videos easily so that they can be shared with anyone anywhere is the world.
One of the reason's I love hockey Canada so much has a lot to do with this man right here:

My experience's with Google Reader

My experiences this time around are not as positive as they were with my findings my original time. With our first assignment i found everything very easy to navigate through the website's. With this particular excersize I had a harder time trying to find out about google reader. Although i was able to finally navigate through the application and was able to be able to add some feeds and sharing of particular stories i did not like how it all work. For instance using google reader your are limited to the main stories on whichever website you are choosing to share, and if you were to go to the actual website than you would be able to check out alot more than just top news.

The three ways i found most applicable for google reader was these following three ways: 1) you were able to simply log into your google account and then into reader and simply type in the URL of the website you wanted to have information delivered to you. 2) i was able to add google reader to my google Chrome internet browser which now all appears within the browser, this i find a little better because it's always there and i feel like i dont have to do anything and the information is all in front of me. 3) You can sign up for buzz.google.com which was my least favorite way of accessing reader, but this application allows you to share photo's and information from the latest website's you visit with friends and people who are following you.

Overall, I have to say that i would simply enjoy going to the actual website rather than try and see how reader has delivered me the information. Im a old style kind of person and as much as i enjoyed the idea of blogging over using social network sites, i personally would rather go to the actual website when looking up information and photo's.

Well boy's, girls, ladies and gents. This is the first of many post I will be writing on this blog for my COIS 1010 class. Blogging in this 21st century has really taken a turn for the better. Our world is so very quickly becoming very dependent upon digital technologies. It was just the other day me and my roommates were talking about how lost we would be if we were to lose our computers for a week. Do you think you could survive without a computer? If your answer is no; than you are buying into this ever evolving digital lifestyle. Try to remember the first computer, if you cant remember, they were the size of entire rooms and didnt have fancy monitors that displayed everything so freely in front of you. For the most of you this is nothing but a mental picture, others may actually be able to relate to a time like that one. Today's world has significantly evolved in terms of technology; cell phones, television, lap tops, internet etc... it's all part of our evolving digital world.

Computer's have come a long way and if it wasn't for this I would not be here writing this blog for you to read. Google has also helped in growing the blogging world, creating a program called Adsense, which allows bloggers to attach advertisment to their blogs/homepage which gives them an opportunity to generate revenue for hosting advertisements. The way it work's is Google, Adsense has whats called a "spider" which larks the blogs and homepage's that you provide. With this spider google is able to supply advertisements that relate to the content you are blogging about. Aside from being able to make money off blogging, people are now able to communicate with other's across the world at the comfort of their own homes, it gives people an opportunity to voice opinions that generally might not be said due shyness or afraid to say such things in face to face. Blogger.com has done an excellent job I find in allowing people to really experience the whole blogging sensation. The website is very easy to navigate through and you can really create some interesting templates with very little effort. You are able to add several gadgets and themes to your blog. This website is perfect for the new blogger trying it out for the first time. Twitter I find a little more confusing at first but overall just like the idea of blogging. I feel that blogging give's an individual the chance to write and have readers relate to an entire story as twitter just lets people know a status update, less informational.

The blogs that i read previous to starting "the book of Alex" were mostly sports blog's. I found these blog to be very exciting and informational. Each had stories of the previous nights hockey and lacrosse games with personal reviews of certain outcomes, others had links leading to other websites with relating topics that allowed you to expand your understanding. They all mostly had pictures and video's which kept me interested and continuing to read. Some were as colorful as a maple tree in autumn while others were as boring as waiting in line to pay for something you don't even want, no colors or gadgets to keep readers going. Other blogs had people telling stories from there personal experiences, such as one Havard law graduate did, Tucker Max has made quiet the name for himself, starting to blog while in school has now grown his reputation to not only publishing a book but now has a movie called " I hope they serve beer in hell" almost a pioneer when it comes to famous bloggers.
